Deaf update

Well its been a month since the last post, Isaac is gaining weight, Joanna is losing weight, my my what a strange world! So here are some funny pics from our sign group, we know many wanted to see a picture of the whole group so here it is, there are about 8 or 9 deaf in this picture, sometimes as many as 14!

Arrival!

Well here we are in Kenya, the Brothers were waiting at the airport with a "Watchtower" sign, wow was that a relief. So we are headed to Rwanda on Wednesday to visit Rick and Catherine, so for those of you that were expecting a phone call this is the update!

Well looks like we made it to England! The pics will show the sights but cannot explain the cold! Yes we are from Winterpeg, but for some reason it feels just as cold here at 5 degrees as Winnipeg at -20 degrees. Sure the damp is bad, but wow, I guess I (Isaac) forgot what Cape Breton felt like! When we first arrived I slept with 2 shirts and 2 sweaters a pair of cords and jeans over top and I still woke up chilled!!
However England is still as wonderful as ever, the Congregation in Worthing is really nice the people so great!
Ireland is spectacular, even though we only saw Dublin. The river running through the city reminds me of Paris, and it is just as pretty.

December 2008

So, 10 days till we leave for Minneapolis to spend a couple of days with Ezra, a good friend of ours in the sign cong in the Twin Cities. In other news we might have an apt in Nakuru sorted. Its in the Milimani Estates district. It looks nice and the Brothers say it is really clean and safe. We will post pics when we get there Jan 7th.

Your questions answered!

Thought I'd answer the most common questions once and for all!
Why Kenya?
The language is primarily English, and the sign language similar to ASL. So hopefully we will be able to communicate and be useful right away, a very important factor for us. I have dreamed of visiting Africa for years, but being that neither of us fare too well in scorching heat, we weren't sure that was an option. Once we did a little research though, we found Kenya's temperature will be enjoyable. Other factors were: needing reliable access to internet, and manageable cost of living. We also have a most helpful friend who spent 8 years in Kenya, who from the outset recommended Kenya to us. We wrote to a few countries, and Kenya is the decision.
What do your parents think?
They are really happy for us and have been behind us every step! They have been really supportive, we really appreciate them!!!!!!
Why January?
Well, we will already be in England in Dec to visit Jo's family, so cost-wise it was the best time to go, just a short skip (well, 8 hr flight) and we'll be in Nairobi.
Where will you be in Kenya?
We will be in the city of Nakuru, about 160km N/NW of Nairobi. We also plan to visit Uganda and Rwanda if possible, still in planning phases.

Welcome friends, this will be the site Jo and I will be updating with pictures and notes on our time in Kenya. So far we have gotten almost all our plans finalized, just need vaccines, visas and a place to stay!
